Most of the time you can eliminate one of those choices as being "bad", so effectively you are left with a zone that is fairly large instead of pinpoint. That doesn't mean you can get lazy and not try to put your cueball on a specific spot, but if you were to err you can pick which side is more beneficial for you to err on.
